New Jersey School Closures, Openings Delayed Due to Heavy Snow for Tuesday (February 13, 2024)

This snow forecast from the National Weather Service regional office in New Jersey was updated Monday evening, February 12. They moved northwest New Jersey’s heaviest snow bands slightly eastward. And some areas of Central Jersey, primarily near the I-95 corridor, are now expected to receive more snow than expected.

New Jersey school districts began announcing closings and delayed openings for Tuesday due to a major winter storm expected to dump 6 to 12 inches of snow on much of northern New Jersey overnight and in the morning trips.

The timing of the heaviest snowfall could make driving conditions Tuesday morning particularly hazardous in more than half the state.

Even in areas of central New Jersey where lesser amounts of snow, 1 to 4 inches, are expected, a change from rain to snow early Tuesday could create a messy, muddy mix on the roads, according to National Weather Service forecasts. Winds could also reach 35 mph.

The weather service has issued winter storm warnings for 10 counties with the highest expected snowfall totals.

The following county school districts have announced schedule changes for Tuesday, February 13, 2024:

BERGEN COUNTY

COUNTY OF ESSEX

HUDSON COUNTY

HUNTERDON COUNTY

MIDDLESEX COUNTY

MORRIS COUNTY

PASSAIQUE COUNTY

SOMERSET COUNTY

SUSSEX COUNTY

UNION COUNTY
