New home sales in the United States in March: 0.693 million versus 0.670 million expected

  • Sales +8.8% versus -0.3% previously
  • Supply at 8.3 months vs 8.8 months previously
  • Median price $437,700, down 1.9% year over year

I don’t find this very surprising. There are numerous reports in the homebuilding industry that consumers are switching to new homes over existing homes because builders are offering rate reductions (mostly below market interest rates for a few years ). They found it to be a winning combination, and the latest numbers from a handful of major U.S. automakers were strong.
