Google is adding new AI-powered search features to Google Search and Google Search Labs, in addition to rolling out AI previews to searchers in the United States this week.
New AI-powered features include the ability to adjust AI previews, multi-step reasoning capabilities, scheduling capabilities, AI-curated search results, and a new query feature with Google Lens video. New features require users to register.
Adjusted AI previews
New to Search Labs is the ability to adjust AI previews to “simplify the language or break it down into more detail,” explained Liz Reid, head of Google search. Clicking “Simpler” will give users a more basic response to the AI presentation; clicking “Break it down” will provide a much more detailed answer.
This feature refines search results without requiring multiple searches during the same search session.

Refining AI Overviews will soon be available in Search Labs for English queries in the United States.
Multi-step reasoning ability
Google Search can now provide multi-step reasoning using Gemini’s step-by-step reasoning logic. “Rather than splitting your question into multiple searches, you can ask your most complex questions, with all the nuances and caveats you have in mind, in one go,” Reid wrote.
The example provided by Google below shows how multi-step reasoning works. Example shows when you are looking for a new yoga or Pilates studio that is popular in your community, conveniently located for your daily commute and also offers a new member discount. You can ask Google Search to “find the best yoga or Pilates studios in Boston and show details about their introductory offerings and walking time from Beacon Hill.”

Multi-step reasoning will also soon be available in Search Labs, for English queries in the United States.
Planning abilities
The Scheduling Capabilities feature gives you the ability to schedule what you need right in Google Search. This will give you choices and the ability to co-create plans with others, it will show you links to recipes across the web, you will be able to export these results and replace specific plan details with another option in the different sets of plans. Plus, it’s not just about showing you the research results, but planning them with you throughout the process.
For example, you can search for “create a 3-day meal plan for a group that’s easy to prepare” and you’ll get a starting point with a wide range of recipes from around the web. You can swap parts of the plan as you like, then export them to Google Docs or Gmail.

Planning is coming to parties, date nights and Search Lab workouts later this year in the US.
AI-curated search results
Google Search will use AI to group search results into specific categories. This will help you think about options for your query, Hema Budaraju, senior product manager, Search Generative Experience, Google, told us. You’ll receive search results “categorized under unique AI-generated headlines, featuring a wide range of perspectives and content types,” Google wrote.
Here’s how AI-curated search results will appear:

This feature will roll out to Meals and Recipes, followed by Movies, Music, Books, Hotels, Shopping and more later this year, directly in Google Search for US English results. It is not available as a Google Search Labs membership feature.
Lens search with video
Lens Search with Video allows users to record video and ask questions while recording; Google will respond based on the questions asked. “We’re able to take visual search to a whole new level, with the ability to ask questions over video,” Reid said.
It reminds me of Multisearch with images and Circle for searching but with video.
Here’s how it will work when it goes live later this year.
