Ahead of Google’s upcoming hardware launch event on August 13, we’ve seen plenty of leaks about upcoming devices, and today two new renders have leaked showing the vanilla Pixel 9 and the Pixel 9 Pro XL (the true size successor to the Pixel 8 Pro).
Google’s lineup is about to get even more confusing on August 13, as it’s expected to launch four new phones: the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The Pixel 9 Pro isn’t the successor to the Pixel 8 Pro, at least not in size, as it’s the same size as the Pixel 8 and Pixel 9, but with the guts of the Pixel 9 Pro XL. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is the successor to last year’s original Pixel Fold, so while this new naming scheme may take a little getting used to, it makes sense once you’re fully familiar with it.
The recently leaked pricing is just as confusing at first glance, and the gist is this: some versions will be priced the same as their predecessors, but there will also be price increases for a number of variants.
The new renders don’t really show us anything new, the Pixel 9 will have one less camera than the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, as we already knew, and the new devices feature a redesigned camera island on the back.
The cameras themselves were detailed by a rumor last week. All of these phones are expected to be powered by Google’s next-gen Tensor G4 chipset.
