New footage emerges of Ederson appearing cold before storming off angrily when replaced by Pep Guardiola during Man City’s 2-0 win over Tottenham.

New footage has shown the state Man City goalkeeper Ederson was in before being substituted during their Premier League match against Tottenham on Tuesday night.

The Brazilian goalkeeper suffered a violent blow to the head in a second-half collision with Spurs defender Cristian Romero – but he tried to continue playing and was left distraught to be taken off from the crucial match minutes later .

Pep Guardiola later defended his club’s conduct, insisting Ederson did not have a concussion – but leading brain injury association Headway believes Man City should have acted immediately.

New images shared on X (fka Twitter) showed Ederson “pretty much passed out”, while players from both sides quickly reported that medical assistance was urgently needed.

As he got back up, he looked groggy and was remarkably allowed to play for several minutes, before being replaced by Stefan Ortega – leading Ederson to be furious at being sent off the pitch, despite the obvious problem.

Cristian Romero has been booked for the incident during Tuesday’s Premier League match.

Concerns over Ederson’s welfare grew as the Brazilian remained on the pitch for several minutes.

It was later claimed that Ederson simply suffered an eye injury following the collision, which saw Romero booked, but it raised concerns over the manner in which the head injuries were processed.

Luke Griggs, Managing Director of Headway, said: “The fundamental principle of any concussion protocol is ‘when in doubt, ignore it’.

“The concern of players from both teams immediately following the injury, together with that of the medical team and the fact that a stretcher was brought onto the pitch, suggests a clear concern for Ederson’s well-being.

“The fact that it was not immediately removed suggests that a concussion was not suspected.” This is difficult to understand, especially since symptoms may be delayed in their onset.

“While we were relieved to see the player sent off a few minutes later, it is difficult to understand why this decision was not immediate.

“This is yet another example of where a temporary substitute for a concussion would have been helpful.”

“Ederson’s angry reaction comes as no surprise given the competitive nature of players who want to take part in massive matches like this, although his reaction highlights the need to take such decisions out of the players’ hands. “

Ortega replaced the injured Ederson in the 69th minute of the match and believes he is ready to oust the Brazilian as Man City’s best goalkeeper.
