New ESPN Draft Allows Celtics to Select LeBron James’ Son

Despite a lackluster first season at USC, Bronny James could be a possible draft pick this summer.

The Celtics have been closely tied to the legacy of LeBron James throughout the basketball legend’s Hall of Fame career.

On multiple occasions, the Celtics have proven to be a formidable playoff opponent for James, including during his tenures with the Cavaliers and Heat.

But in a strange twist of fate, could the Celtics end up being the team that adds James’ son Bronny to their organization in the upcoming 2024 NBA Draft?

ESPN draft experts Jeremy Woo and Jonathan Givony released their latest 2024 NBA Mock Draft Wednesday morning β€” with Boston expected to draft Bronny James with the No. 54 overall pick.

The Celtics hold the No. 54 pick after acquiring him in a three-team deal last summer that landed Grant Williams to the Mavericks.

Bronny James – a 6-foot-4 guard – had a disappointing first season at USC, averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists off the bench for the Trojans.

It remains to be seen whether James actually has the ceiling to be an everyday contributor at the next level, but his family history will likely entice a team to use a second-round pick to bring James into the fold.

For months, speculation has swirled around Bronny James and the potential of his father wanting to play on the same team as him at this point in his career.

James, who has a player option with the Lakers and could opt for free agency this summer, indicated earlier this season that he would like to share the court with his son before retiring.

However, James emphasized earlier this month that playing with his son was no longer the same priority for him β€” at least not enough to potentially entice him to sign with the team that drafts Bronny.

As fun as it might be to imagine the Celtics somehow managing to get LeBron and Bronny James on the same team in 2024-25, the mere sight of LeBron sitting courtside at TD Garden to monitor his son would be a crazy development given the many battles he’s had on this very floor.
