There are plenty of small towns across the United States that celebrate the holidays in a big way, according to TripsToDiscover.com, and three of them are in New England.

The travel site recently listed the 21 best small towns to visit for Christmas in the United States and included Taunton, Mass.; Woodstock, Vermont; and Newport, RI
About Taunton, dubbed “The Town of Christmas”, the site noted the destination’s annual Lighting of the Green and Lights On festival, an event that has been going on for more than a century.
“The show includes a Christmas parade, light shows, fireworks, kid-friendly activities and performances on historic Taunton Green,” wrote TripsToDiscover.com.
This year’s 109th event will take place on December 3, followed by the Christmas Parade on December 4.
Woodstock, Vermont, “comes alive” during its annual Woodstock Wassail weekend, according to the site, with sleigh rides, singers, a holiday craft fair, theatrical performances, and more.
This year, Woodstock Wassail Weekend will take place from December 9-11.
Finally, Newport, RI brings the parade of illuminated boats to the harbor as well as the Newport Mansions holiday, “the perfect blend of opulence and Christmas magic.”
The Newport Lighted Boat Parade takes place this year on November 25 and the Newport Mansions Holiday takes place from November 19 to January 1, 2023.
Newport also made Travel + Leisurethe recent list of the 25 best Christmas towns in the United States, with Nantucket; Portsmouth, New Hampshire; and Ogunquit, Maine.
