New images from Marvel Studios Captain America: Brave New World featured an Easter egg bringing back memories of the MCU’s Black Panther.
Captain America 4 is set to be the first of a dozen new theatrical releases from Disney in 2025, giving Anthony Mackie his first solo MCU film as Captain America. In addition to his evolution from Falcon to Captain America, the film will pit him against some of his most dangerous enemies yet, the Leader and Red Hulk.
To combat these enemies, Sam Wilson will use the new set of wings he obtained from Wakanda at the end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier with Captain America’s iconic shield. On top of that, as new images show, it looks like fans are finally about to see the full extent of what these wings can do.
A new TV spot for Marvel Studios Captain America: Brave New World included a Black Panther-related Easter egg.
The photo shows Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson being thrown against cars by Harrison Ford’s Thunderbolt Ross after Ross transforms into the Red Hulk. Interestingly, a purple tint surrounds Sam’s wings when he crashes into the cars.
This purple energy appears to grow in intensity with each swing Sam’s new wings take, indicating new abilities in his latest appearance in the MCU.
This appears to be the same shade that came out of King T’Challa’s supersuit from 2018. Black Pantherwhich was developed by Letitia Wright’s Shuri. This suit has the ability to absorb hits from enemies and weapons and channel them into kinetic energy that can be reflected back at enemies.
This ability has been demonstrated numerous times over the two Black Panther movies, Avengers: Infinity War, And Avengers: Endgame.
To give you an idea, below is a photo of Captain America’s costume from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in relation to the new costume and the wings he will wear Captain America 4. Although the wings appear largely the same, they are expected to be new in the sequel, as they did not have kinetic energy absorption abilities before.
The trailer can be seen below, shared by X (formerly Twitter) user @cosmic_marvel:
Given that Sam’s new wings come straight from Wakanda, it wouldn’t be shocking to see them possess some of the same abilities as the Black Panther suits. On top of that, with the incredibly powerful power Captain America 4The bad guys are, Sam is going to need all the extra help he can get.
In addition to his pure, unadulterated strength and rage, Harrison Ford’s Red Hulk (read more about his comedic abilities in the MCU here) will return with a vengeance as President of the United States. Its impact will certainly put Sam in greater danger than he has seen as a solo hero during his time in the MCU.
In addition to Red Hulk, Captain America will also have to manage the return of Tim’s leader Blake Nelson, who we haven’t seen in the MCU since 2008. The Incredible Hulk. Endowed with almost superhuman intelligence and an undeniable quest for revenge, his return will not be an easy challenge for Sam.
Putting obstacles of this magnitude into Sam Wilson’s first solo film (and Captain America’s first solo film since 2016) will certainly make it an epic adventure.
Fans are hoping the 2025 sequel does its best after reports of reshoots and rewrites plagued the film during its production schedule. Luckily, plenty of exciting details and connections to MCU history should help. Captain America 4 kick off Marvel’s 2025 slate with a bang.
Captain America: Brave New World will be released in theaters on February 14.
