Netflix series could have hurt Spencer Rattler in NFL draft: insider

It could have been a harsh reality for Spencer Rattler to see himself fall late in the 2024 NFL Draft.

However, a possible past incident behind the fifth-round fall could be even more serious.

NFL Network Ian Rapoport insinuated that the No. 150 pick’s stock could have fallen due to his high school career, which was shown publicly in Season 3 of the Netflix reality series “QB1: Beyond the Lights.”

The documentary series followed three-star high school quarterbacks, including Rattler, each season during their final seasons before moving on to Division I college football.

“Spencer Rattler did a reality show in high school,” Rapoport said during the NFL Network’s broadcast of the draft. “It didn’t make him look good. And it’s amazing how many different teams have mentioned her image to me on this show and how they can’t get her out of their heads, which I think would be a PSA for all young people 17 years old. But it’s fascinating while teams debate whether or not they should draft him.

The series, which also starred Justin Fields, Sam Hartman, Bryce Young and Anthony Richardson, detailed how Rattler was suspended during his senior year of high school for violating a district code of conduct that prevented him from participating at his end-of-year game – and the rest of the season.

There are still few details about the incident that determined his ineligibility.

However, his family is known to have tried to game the decision by claiming Rattler was suffering from an injury.

Still, Rattler was the No. 1 quarterback recruit out of Pinnacle High School in Phoenix, and he went on to play for Oklahoma for three seasons before transferring to South Carolina after the No. 1 pick arrived. 1 of the Bears, Caleb Williams. and took him some time.
