Kathmandu, Nepal (AP) – Nepal marked the 10th anniversary of the 2015 devastating earthquake with a commemorative service on Friday which was assisted by senior officials who are better prepared to deal with future disasters.
At 11:56 a.m., which was time for the earthquake on April 25, 2015, Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli, the best ministers, civil servants and diplomats got up and held a minute of silence in memory of the people killed on the site of a tower which collapsed and crushed 180 people.
The 7.8 magnitude earthquake killed at the beginning of 9,000 people, injured more than 22,000 and damaged around 1 million houses and buildings.
“There was a huge loss of lives and goods at the time, but were able to recover and rebuild successfully.” Oli said. “Nepal has shown resilience.”
Oli was joined by ministers and diplomats from the countries helped in Nepal with the rescue, recovery and reconstruction efforts later to light candles in memory of lost life in the disaster.
“We could not have done all of this just by ourselves,” said Oli. “We would like to thank all of our partner nations and agencies for their support.”
According to Anil Pokhrel, who directed the National Pokhrel, who directed the National Disaster Risk and Management, was rebuilt, of which almost all public schools and buildings have improved the new security standards, which led the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority for years until his retirement.
Up to 95% of damaged houses in rural areas have been rebuilt, while there is less in urban areas, mainly due to problems such as disputes on property or reconstruction plans.
Families received $ 3,000 to rebuild their homes and offices were created by the government in all the districts that had engineers and experts to help them rebuild.
“The reconstruction of Nepal, given time, given the scale, given the process it has followed and working with development partners, it is really considered one of the exemplary reconstruction and recovery experiences,” said Pokhrel.
