Neil Young does not make Facebook friendship. In the light of the information that Meta would have enabled the IA chatbots to engage with the minors in a “romantic” and “sensual” manner, the rocker team published a declaration on its profile announcing its decision to leave the platform Thursday, August 14.
“At the request of Neil Young, we no longer use Facebook for activities related to Neil Young”, reads the musician’s latest Facebook status. “The use of chatbots by meta with children is unacceptable. Mr. Young does not want an additional connection with Facebook. ”
The statement did not mention whether the musician would also leave Instagram, who also belongs to Meta.
Display panel contacted representatives for Young and Meta to comment.
The announcement comes the same day Reuters has published a report exposing questionable results in an internal Meta Platform document compiling AI and Chatbot policies of the company. These policies included authorizations so that chatbots “engage a child in romantic or sensual conversations”.
The news agency also pointed out that Meta chatbots were free to generate false medical information and help users build arguments for openly racist statements such as blacks are “more stupid than whites”. When he was in a hurry to comment, a spokesman for the technology giant told Reuters that the document has undergone revisions to remove policies allowing an inappropriate dialogue with children.
Young’s Declaration is far from the first time he spoke about his beliefs, and it was the first time he called large technological companies. In May, he released a song entitled “Let’s Roll Again” which criticized Tesla by Elon Musk. Calling Ford, General Motors and Chrysler to build clean energy vehicles that “will not kill our children”, the musician sang, “if you are fascist, then get a Tesla / If it’s electric, that doesn’t matter.”
The icon also frequently expresses its concerns about the management of the United States under Donald Trump. Also in May, Young criticized the president for wasting energy to dissonor musicians such as Bruce Springsteen and Taylor Swift on Truth Social instead of focusing on real problems, writing in an open letter, “stop thinking about what the Rockers say. Remember America from the disorder that you have done.”
