Neighbors unhappy with mismatched shingles in their Villages home

Neighbors are unhappy with mismatched shingles on a Villages home.

The house is located at 1207 Santa Cruz Drive in Villa San Leandro in Santiago Village.

Homeowners attended the Community Development District 2 Board of Supervisors meeting at the Savannah Center on Friday.

“All of the homes in Villa San Leandro have brown architectural tiles while the new roof at 1207 Santa Cruz Drive is a very different gray color,” said Villa San Leandro resident Jeffrey Shama.

Information presented at the meeting suggests that the shingle manufacturer no longer makes the color of shingles that were installed at the time of original construction. The owner appeared before the architectural review board and presented photos of shingles that he said were very similar. The owner received CRA approval and the roof was replaced.

The residents of the courtyard villa are demanding an investigation into this matter.

“More than 100 homes in our community have uniformly colored shingles, with the lone renegade home at 1207 Santa Cruz standing out in painful contrast,” Shama said.

They requested that the CDD 2 board require the owner to replace or stain the “non-compliant shingles.”

Shama added that a home at 1221 Santa Cruz Drive was redone in November 2023 with the correct color.

The board agreed to allow Community Standards to review the situation, which could result in a public hearing.
