The Olympic hero of India Neeraj Chopra announced that his long -awaited invitation javelin event, the Neeraj Chopra Classic (NC Classic) will now take place in Bengaluru instead of Panchkula. The event, which was originally to be held at the Tau Devi Lal stadium, was now transferred to the exterior stadium of Sree Kanterava in Bengaluru. It will be held on the same date, May 24.
Explaining the change of place, Neeraj said that the stadium lighting in Panchkula did not meet the international standards required by world athletics.
During an online press conference on Monday, Neeraj confirmed the update and shared exciting details on the competition, which was officially granted to category A status by the world of athletics, which means that it will bear major classification points for the qualification of world events such as the world championships.
A dream come true for Neeraj
Neeraj said that the organization of a world -class javelin event in India has been a longtime dream for him. “It was a longtime dream. When I traveled abroad, I was in admiration in front of the world competitions and how the athletes were supported. I often wondered if India could organize an event of this standard, where the best athletes from around the world would come to help in India, “he said.
The idea of appointing the event after itself came from a conversation with its coach Jan Zelezny, who underlined other similar events like the Mondo Classic, named after the star of the Pole jump, Mondo Duplantis.
“The idea behind the Neeraj Chopra Classic is inspired by a few athletes and my discussions with the coach Jan Zelezny. He suggested appointing the event after me, because Mondo Duplantis has an event named according to him, and there are also other similar events. I found the inspiration in them and I am really excited about it,” he added.

Neeraj has shared a preliminary list of international stars who confirmed their participation in the NC Classic.

Neeraj on Arshad Nadeem
Asked about the Pakistan Olympic gold medalist, Arshad Nadeem, Neeraj said that the invitation had been sent, and Arshad told him that he would chat with his coach before confirming. For the moment, there is no official word, but Neeraj hopes that he will join.
