Lincoln, neb. – The spring match of Nebraska, one of the best attended in university football and a large income producer, will probably not take place because of the concern of coach Matt Rhule concerning the other teams poaching his players.
“The word” falsification “no longer exists,” said Rhule on Saturday during his mid -winter press conference. “It’s just a free open free market. I don’t necessarily want to open up to the outside world and make our guys look and say:” He looks like a very good player. Let’s go. “”
Spring game has a long tradition in Nebraska. Last year, the event attracted 60,452 to the Memorial Stadium, the fourth higher in the country behind the spring matches at Ohio State, Alabama and Penn State. The Cornhuskers game was also televised on the Big Ten network.
“I have treated with a lot of people offering our players a lot of opportunities after that,” said Rhule. “So you go out and bring a bunch of new players and present them so that all the other schools can look at? I don’t make much sense to me.”
Six Nebraska players entered the transfer portal the week after last year’s spring match.
The spring portal period ends on April 25 of this year, the day before that the Nebraska spring training ends. However, players can change schools without entering the portal, as was the case with the recent move to the security of the Wisconsin Safety Xavier Lucas in Miami.
Rhule said that his players’ exhibition to other schools was more worrying than risking injuries in a spring match. The large half -a half -corner recipient and the Blye Hill corner half were injured in last year’s spring match and missed the season. Rhule said he would continue to be attacked live in the melee during spring training.
“The guys are paid now, and you put money behind some people, a whole other set of parameters,” said Rhule. “However, at the same time, you have to do well.
Rhule said that even if it was “very doubtful” that a spring match will take place with a melee format, he wants to “show” his players to the fans in one way or another. Sports director Troy Dannen said in his radio program last week that an event to be determined would be held on April 26, perhaps the one that involves football and other autumn sports.
