NCIS Showrunner Addresses Knight’s Fate Amid Katrina Law Exit Rumors

NCIS showrunner Steve D. Binder discussed Katrina Law’s future on the series. Nearly a month after the Season 21 finale aired, EP was asked about her character, Jessica Knight’s arc after accepting a job at Camp Pendleton.

Speaking to TV Line, Steve was asked about Katrina’s status on the show and whether or not she would officially leave in series 22. “Well, you know, we’ve got something set up there, and I’ll point you to our track to record where ‘You never know,'” he said.

“We’ve had people who looked like they were going away, then we found out they weren’t going away, and then people who disappeared like Gibbs.”

Showrunner Steve D. Binder hopes audiences will be “satisfied” with Knight’s arc

“I will say this. We aim to please, and we think the audience will be happy with how this turns out,” Steve continued. “Sometimes that satisfaction is bittersweet and sometimes it’s just pure joy. We’ll have to wait to see which one it will be.”

Have you caught up on season 21 of NCIS?

As fans of the series will recall, during the season finale, Jessica was offered a new position as director of REACT training by director Leon Vance, which she happily accepted. Unfortunately for the character, her decision did not go down well with her boyfriend, Dr. Jimmy Palmer, who was hesitant to commit to a long-distance relationship.

Ready to move to another coast, Jessica’s conversation with Jimmy seemed pretty conclusive, fueling further speculation that Katrina Law will hang up her badge. But of course it is NCIS we talk, and nothing is ever simple.

Last month, Katrina herself hinted she would appear in series 22, with her character’s future determined in the next episode. “I guess we have to wait for CBS FALL,” she wrote on Instagram. “In the meantime… find @ncisverse on @paramountplus. Thank you everyone for a wonderful season.”

Addressing Jessica’s decision to take the job at Camp Pendleton, Katrina also thought it suited her character.

The character’s relationship with Jimmy Palmer has been called into question

“I think ultimately Jessica has to take this job because she knows deep down that this is what she wants,” the actress told TV Line.

“She wants a career, she’s very ambitious, and for her, a long-distance relationship isn’t the end all be all end all. At the same time, maybe it is, if it doesn’t work out. She needs to go move forward and see where these things lead, she can’t settle into something that she knows will eventually make her angry and regretful.

NCIS will return with a 22nd series in the fall

“And I think Jimmy is in the same situation: he had the opportunity to say, ‘Please don’t take this job,’ and he didn’t. He knows instinctively that Knight has to go do that, and then they can see where they are afterwards.”

So, when will fans be able to watch the 22nd season of NCIS? Although an official release date has yet to be announced, the series has historically returned in September, so we hope to see what’s next for Jessica Knight in just three months.
