For the first time, the NCAA women’s basketball championship game drew a bigger audience than the men’s final, with South Carolina-Iowa edging out UConn-Purdue by more than 4 million people.
The Gamecocks’ victory over the Hawkeyes averaged 18.9 million viewers, while the Huskies’ loss to the Boilermakers averaged just 14.8 million.
The women’s final was broadcast on a major network, ABC, while the men’s final was broadcast on the cable network TBS.
Purdue-UConn started at 9:20 p.m. Eastern Time, while Iowa-South Carolina started at 3:00 p.m. and finished at 5:30 p.m., while the men’s final was almost played on Tuesday.
