NBA paid tribute to the end of college basketball Terrence Clarke with a touching gesture during his annual draft.
At the event at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Thursday, July 29, the NBA commissioner Adam Silver paused before announcing the 15th pick and selected Terrence with an honorary choice. Terrence was only 19 when he died in April following a car accident in Los Angeles. A month before the crash, he entered the NBA Draft after completing his first season at the University of Kentucky.
“His extraordinary talent, commitment and dedication to the game deserve to be recognized on this stage”, Adam noted from the podium. “It is my honor to announce now that with the next pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, the NBA selects Terrence Clarke of the University of Kentucky.”
The commissioner welcomed Terrence’s mother and two siblings on stage, with the athlete’s mother in particular becoming very moved. Adam told those close to Terrence that the late player “will always be part of the NBA family”.
