Stoltenberg’s warning that the failure to support Ukraine “is a matter of life and death” came as Russian forces have made steady progress against Ukrainian defenders suffering from shortages of weapons and ammunition due to delays in sending supplies.
“When we don’t act as we should, Ukrainians pay the price. But so do we,” he said, warning that “the biggest cost would be Russia’s victory in Ukraine.” Because then we are talking about huge sums of money that NATO allies would have to invest in security. Supporting Ukraine is the best way to ensure our security.”
Stoltenberg acknowledged that in recent weeks, allies have stepped up their pledges and deliveries – particularly following the US decision to approve $61 billion in arms aid, as well as new programs from the Kingdom -United, Canada and other allies.
“But (we) need to make sure that announcements translate into results. Because time counts, every day counts,” Stoltenberg said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also warned that Moscow was taking advantage of delays in getting weapons and ammunition to the front lines.
“Supply efficiency literally means stabilization of the front,” he said, emphasizing the need for 155-caliber artillery ammunition, long-range weapons and anti-aircraft defenses, primarily Patriot systems .
