Nat Barr loses to Anthony Albanese in heated clash on Sunrise: ‘It’s probably a failure’

Nat Barr has blasted Anthony Albanese after a released immigration detainee allegedly punched an elderly woman during a horror home invasion.

Ninette Simmons, 73, and her husband Phillip, 76, were left bruised and shaken after three men allegedly attacked them and stole jewelry from their Perth home.

One of the alleged perpetrators, Majid Jamshidi Doukoshkan, 43, is part of a cohort of immigrant detainees at the center of a federal political fight.

The Sunrise host questioned why the government’s Community Protection Board did not recommend the released inmate wear an ankle monitoring device.

Although prosecutors warned Mr. Doukoshkan that he was likely to reoffend and had compliance issues, the commission decided he should not be forced to wear the bracelet.

“Commonwealth prosecutors apparently did not object to bail in these circumstances in Perth. Your own government advice did not recommend the wearing of an ankle bracelet,” Barr said.

Barr asked Mr Albanese if Interior Minister Clare O’Neil would be sacked over the debacle.

The Prime Minister simply replied “no” and declared that the decision was not his.

“Nat, in this country we have a separation between the judicial system and the political system. But if it were up to me, I assure you no bail would have been granted in this case,” Mr Albanese replied.

“But these things are done independently by the Director of Public Prosecutions.”

Barr fired back: “But there was no opposition.”

“It was not a decision of the Nat government,” refuted the Prime Minister.

“I am just as upset as you by this decision, I think it lacks common sense.

Nat Barr has blasted Anthony Albanese and called for one of his ministers to resign after an elderly woman was punched by a released immigration detainee.

Recently released inmate Majid Jamshidi Doukoshkan (above), accused of hitting an elderly woman in her own home, appeared in court this year.

“This is undoubtedly one of the things that will be on the agenda today at the attorneys general meeting, which will be chaired by Mark Dreyfus in Canberra, bringing together all the states and territories to consider laws on bail to consider these issues.

Barr pushed the prime minister to accept responsibility for the failure.

“If you appointed a board that said this person doesn’t need an ankle bracelet, surely that’s a failure?” she says.

‘Yes it is. I think it’s a bad decision on the part of this board,” Mr. Albanese responded.

Nat interrupted: (A board of directors) that you appointed, so who is responsible for it?’

“They make decisions completely independently,” continued Mr. Albanese.

“One of the things we have in this country is a separation there and the whole NZYQ thing was something we opposed, that High Court decision. The government had to deal with the consequences and to the consequences of this situation.

“We tried to do it. We have passed a whole series of laws. “We now have a law before the Senate that we wanted to pass in March, when Parliament was in session, and which was delayed by another investigation by a coalition of Liberals and Greens,” Albanese explained.

“So we want to take as strong a measure as possible here. We recognize that community safety is the top priority.

“My heart goes out to Ninette. No one should be subjected to this kind of violence. It is a scandal that this happened.

Mr Doukoshkan was one of 154 men released in November after the High Court ruled that indefinite detention was unlawful.

On Thursday, Barr asked Interior Minister Clare O’Neil why released inmate Jamshidi Doukoshkan was not wearing an ankle monitoring device.

Ms O’Neil dodged the question, saying she could not comment and potentially disrupt the criminal proceedings against the man.

“So one of the layers of protection that we have in place, Nat, is a group of very experienced law enforcement officials who make decisions about how people will be monitored in the community,” he said. she declared.

Barr hit back, asking a question on the minds of many Australians.

“Aren’t you responsible for the Community Protection Board that makes these decisions?

“And they didn’t give him an anklet?”

“Do you think people feel safe there,” Barr asked.

Ms. O’Neil again dodged the question: “Well, I’m not going to comment on the details of the case.”
