Nashville’s offers for the WNBA team would honor Pat Summitt with name

Nashville, Tennessee – The president of Nashville predators of the NHL and his wife want to bring the WNBA to Music City and have teamed up with a group of investors filled with stars who includes Candace Parker, the quarter of the Professional Football Fotball Peyton Manning and Tim McGraw and Faith Hill artists and artists.

The group led by Bill Haslam, a former Governor of Tennessee, submitted his candidacy for the WNBA on Thursday for a franchise that would begin to play in 2028. The team would be appointed Tennessee Summitt in honor of the late Pat Summitt.

Haslam said they saw how professional sports of women emerge worldwide.

“We think that a Nashville -based WNBA team could serve as a lighthouse for girls and women, young and old, through Tennessee, while creating more opportunities for sports enthusiasts while Our community continues to grow, “said Haslam.

The Nashville offer offers a plan to build a training installation for the WNBA team which would also be used for basketball for young people.

“Tennessee is the DNA of everything that represents women’s basketball,” said Parker in a statement. “I am delighted to be part of the group working to bring a WNBA team to the state and to honor the inheritance of coach Summitt.”

Parker is a triple WNBA champion and helped Summitt win two of his eight national championships at the University of Tennessee. Summitt died in 2016 as the most winning coach in division I four years after her retirement after her early early dementia diagnosis, the type of Alzheimer.

Originally from Tennessee, Summitt led to the Lady Flights for 38 years and had a career record of 1,098-208 in 38 seasons with 18 appearances of the NCAA Final Four. His son, Tyler, noted that his mother was a great defender of female sports and women in leadership.

“I know that it would be proud and honored to be included in the expansion of women’s professional basketball in Tennessee,” said Summitt.

The team would play Bridgestone Arena, who houses the predators. Haslam began its purchase on a majority part of the predators in 2022.

The WNBA adds three expansion teams in the next two seasons with Golden State, Portland and Toronto joining to increase franchises in the League to 15. Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said that the WNBA would like to add a 16th team by here The 2028 season. Cleveland announced its attempt to bring a WNBA franchise in Ohio in November.
