New York (AP) – NASA extinguishes two scientific instruments on its longtime twin space to travel to save energy.
The space agency declared on Wednesday an instrument on Voyager 2 which measures the loaded particles and the cosmic rays which will stop later this month. Last week, NASA propelled an instrument on Voyager 1 designed to study cosmic rays.
Energy saving movements were necessary to extend their missions, said Project Director Voyager, Suzanne Dodd, at the NASA jet propulsion laboratory.
The twin space vessel was launched in 1977 and is currently in the interstellar space, or the space between the stars. Traveling 1 discovered a thin ring around Jupiter and several of Saturn moons, and traveling 2 is the only spacecraft to visit Uranus and Neptune.
Each spacecraft has three more instruments each to study the protective bubble of the sun and the space of space beyond.
Traveling 1 is more than 15 billion kilometers from the land and traveling 2 is more than 13 billion kilometers.
