Naomi Oomi Osaka, the big chelem quadruple, has won its first WTA title since its triumph at the Australian Open 2021 – and on its worst surface apparently.
Osaka beat Kaja Juvan 6-1, 7-5 Sunday to win the Saint-Malo Open 35-a WTA 125 tournament-and secure its very first clay trophy.
It was also the first title of the Japanese player’s WTA since she became a mother in July 2023, returning to tennis at the start of the following year.
“A little ironic to win my first trophy on the surface that I thought it was my worst,” wrote Osaka on X. “This is one of my favorite things on life, there is always room to grow and evolve.
“Thank you to everyone who accompanies me on this trip, I know it’s turbulent, but it’s also really fun and I am grateful.”

The former world n ° 1 will go to No. 48 in the WTA ranking on Monday.
Osaka has two Australian crowns and two American crowns on hard grounds, but has a bad file at the French Open and withdrew from the Clay-Court tournament in 2021 before the second round to take a mental health break.
The 27-year-old Clay-COURT season started with a defeat in the first round of the Madrid Open last month.
The French Open begins on May 25.
