Nano Banana image editing comes to AI mode and Google Lens

Nano Banana was a hit in the Gemini app, and Google is now bringing the model’s (Gemini 2.5 Flash Image) editing and viral image generation to AI mode, as well as Google Lens.

In Search’s AI mode, this starts with a new “plus” icon in the lower left corner of the dialog box. Voice input and Lens are moved to the right. (Similarly, AI Mode this week replaced the suggestion carousel on this page with a simpler list of prompts.)

This menu allows you to access the gallery (like before), the camera and create images with a banana emoji. If you choose the last option, the prompt changes to “Describe your image.” You can generate completely new ones or add an image to make changes.

Like Gemini app, you can download this image and share it. What is generated has a Gemini sparkle watermark in the lower right corner.

The most important Nano Banana integration is in Google Lens. After adding the “Live” search (and integrating the “Assignments” filter directly into “Search”), there is now a “Create” tab. (A small redesign moves the text labels below the icon, so more filters can appear side by side.)

It invites you to capture, create and share, with the banana emoji on the shutter button. Compared to other filters, Create defaults to using the front-facing camera for a selfie, with a lens selector available on the right. Hitting Capture adds this image to the AI mode prompt box where you can type a prompt.

We see Nano Banana in Google Lens and AI mode on Android today (in the US) with an account enabled in the AI Mode Research Lab.

Meanwhile, Google this week introduced AI Mode in 35 new languages and over 40 new countries/territories to bring the total list to 200. The full list is available here.
