The corpses had to be “cremated in batteries” in Mandalay, a student who lives in the district of Mahaaungmyay told the BBC.

The 23 -year -old woman, who only wanted to be known as J, lost her aunt during the earthquake last Friday. “But his body was not removed from the rubble until two days later, March 30,” said J.

Those who survived live in despair, she said, noting how she and her family barely slept and attend new damage every day while the replicas struck.

“I saw a lot of people, including me, crouching and cry aloud in the streets,” said J.

Young children were particularly traumatized, she said. “They refuse to go back to the houses. Almost everyone in the city chooses to sleep only in the streets, until everything settles down.”

But the relief was slow.

“(Summary teams) have been working constantly for four days and I think they are a little tired. They also need rest.

“But because the damage has been so extensive, we have limited resources here, it is simply difficult for help to manage such massive destruction effectively,” she said.
