Elon Musk, who was the biggest donor in the presidential campaign in 2024, said on Tuesday that he planned to reduce his political expenses.
“I’m going to do much less in the future,” he said in a video interview with Bloomberg News in Qatar Economic Forum. “I think I did enough.”
When asked if the less in politics expected was motivated by any return to the Trump administration, Musk said: “If I see a reason to make political expenses in the future. I will do so. But I will not currently see any reason.”
Musk, the richest person in the world, has channeled nearly $ 300 million in President Trump’s campaign, becoming a first political donor and a symbolically powerful ally of the president.
Trump raised musk as a key figure in the White House, which was crystallized at a first meeting of the cabinet where Musk dominated the discussion, while the secretaries of the department turned with caution.
Musk appeared alongside the president in the oval office to boast his work with the US Doge Service, an initiative aggressively focused on the reduction of federal government spending, having dismissed thousands of government employees and helped to relax entire agencies.
The effort attracted a meticulous examination. Researchers and good governance groups wonder if DOGE has indeed reduced “waste, fraud, abuse”. Public accounting of savings by the unit is systematically criticized for exaggerations, two compensations and other inconsistencies.
