Musk calls Twitter a ‘crime scene’ as GOP wants him to testify at Hunter Biden hearings

Elon Musk has branded Twitter a ‘scene of crime’ as he vows to dig up all of his ‘darkest secrets’ regarding his removal of Hunter Biden’s laptop story.

Chief Twit is working in coordination with several journalists to release files and messages from the social media company – now known as “Twitter files” – about its censorship decision-making processes.

The work has caught the attention of House GOP officials, who have invited Musk to testify in their investigations into Hunter Biden, who is facing allegations of illegal business dealings in China and Ukraine that Republicans say may involve his father, President Joe Biden.

U.S. Representative James Comer of Kentucky, who is set to lead the House Oversight Committee when the GOP takes control of Congress, told the New York Post that he has personally reached out to Musk.

“We would like him to come before the committee,” Comer said. ”I’m quite confident that he will provide more information, but he is welcome before our committee. We’ll be rolling out the red carpet for Elon Musk.

It comes as the latest Twitter files revealed that FBI agents pressured the social media company to censor conservative commentators who pushed unsubstantiated claims that the 2020 election was stolen, with the latest files to drop off Saturday night.

While discussing Musk’s invitation to appear before the House Oversight Committee, Comer praised the Twitter CEO’s decision to publicly disclose the company’s censorship process and conversations with government agencies.

“He is doing the Oversight Committee and America a great service by releasing all emails and correspondence between the Biden campaign and the Democratic National Committee and Twitter,” Comer told the Post.

He noted that the committee had previously sent a letter to Musk on October 28, urging him to keep all relevant documents on Twitter for their investigation and to end his censorship practices.

“Republicans on the committee … urge you to reverse the censorship of certain news and opinion,” the committee wrote. “This includes ending the practice employed by former Twitter leadership of prioritizing its own worldview over freedom of expression and information.”

While the “red carpet” treatment would be rolled out for Musk, former Twitter staffers who oversaw censorship will not receive the same treatment.

Former Twitter general counsel Jim Baker and former safety and trust chiefs Vijaya Gadde and Yoel Roth have received more formal letters asking them to appear for questioning or face a subpoena to appear.

Your testimony will provide the Committee with critical context regarding the decision by Twitter’s censorship team to ban users from sharing information about a presidential candidate,’ Comer wrote to Baker, who was recently canned. for his “possible” role in deleting the laptop’s history in October 2020.

All eyes remain on Twitter as it releases its cache of documents through reporters Matt Taibbi, Michael Shellenberger and Bari Weiss.

The records themselves have become a hot topic even among journalists, with Kara Swisher openly mocking the reporting and Musk’s characterization of the state of the business.

After Chief Twit posted his characterization that Twitter was a “scene of crime,” Swisher responded by tweeting, “Yay, I still love another episode of Special (Billionaire) Victims Unit: Richer and Whinier Than Ever.

Swisher previously interviewed Roth, the former head of trust and safety at Twitter, as he admitted the company made a mistake in censoring Hunter Biden’s laptop story.

Roth stepped down in November after Musk’s $44 billionaire buyout of the company. He said the authenticity of the New York Post laptop story was difficult for the social media company to verify and was quickly censored in October 2020.

Speaking in an interview with journalist Kara Swisher, Roth said: “We didn’t know what to believe, we didn’t know what was true, there was smoke – and ultimately for me, it didn’t. didn’t get to where I was comfortable removing this content from Twitter.’

“But it triggered every one of my finely tuned APT28 hack and leak campaign alarms. Everything about it felt like a hack and leak.

He mentioned General Counsel Vijaya Gadde as one of “two high-profile Twitter employees we want to hear about.”

When he announced that the Oversight Committee wanted Baker and Gadde to testify, Comer warned former Twitter employees to be prepared for the tough questions.

“My advice for them is, before they come before the oversight committee in January or February, as quickly as we can get them before the oversight committee, they have to search very hard to try to find evidence of why they deleted that story,” he told Fox & Friends on Monday.

‘If they can’t find evidence of a government entity like the FBI actually saying to suppress this story, my next advice for them would be to contact their errors and omissions insurance company because they’re going to have lots of problems moving forward.

“Because it was such an important story and the fact that they took it down when we now know it was very true and very damaging to the Biden campaign is very concerning.”

Comer promised to investigate what he called a “Biden family influence peddling investigation.”

It was a reference to a web of business dealings with Hunter Biden, some of which was on display in the infamous laptop featured in the New York Post report that Twitter took down for a while.

As the House Oversight Committee prepares its investigation into Hunter, the president’s son appears to be preparing for his own legal battles.

A team met last September to lay out a plan as they prepare to defend Hunter Biden against an expected onslaught of investigations by House Republicans.

A team met last September to lay out a plan as they prepare to defend Hunter Biden against an expected onslaught of investigations by House Republicans.

The president’s son’s allies met for a private strategy session last September in California where they discussed suing Hunter’s accusers and critics with libel suits, according to the Washington Post.

Hunter’s attorney and friend Kevin Morris suggested at the meeting that legal action be taken against Fox News, Eric Trump and Rudy Giuliani, as well as an investigation into the repairman who turned in his laptop.

Morris told the group that it was crucial for the Hunter camp to be more aggressive and also described extensive research into two potential witnesses against Hunter – rejected business partner Tony Bobulinsky and computer repairman John Paul Mac Isaac, who handed over his laptop to the FBI.

Hunter Biden was not at the meeting, but participated in the discussion via video.

David Brock, a well-known liberal activist and Clinton family advocate, who attended the meeting, planned to start a new group, Facts First USA, which would focus on fighting the impending House GOP investigations, reported The Post.

“They feel like there’s a whole counter-narrative missing because of the whole Hunter-hater narrative,” Brock said.

“What we really got into was more the meat, the meat of what a response would look like.”
