Novak Djokovic will have the old rival Andy Murray in his corner of coaches as he tries to win the title of the Indian Wells for the first time in almost a decade.
The Murray management team confirmed that the 37-year-old Scovery had proved to be in California on Monday to continue his coache arrangement with the Serbian champion of Grand Colam 24-tenses.
Djokovic hired Murray before the Australian Open this year and reached the semi-final before being forced to retire against Alexander Zverev due to an injury.
Murray returns to the Djokovic coaching configuration
His only match since then was a defeat of Matteo Berrettini Italian in Doha last month when Murray was not present.
Djokovic should participate both in Indian Wells and Miami – known as Double Sunshine – for the first time since 2019.
He is the holder of the joint record of titles of the two Masters events with five at Indian Wells and Six in Miami, tied with Roger Federer and Andre Agassi respectively. However, he has not won any title since 2016.
The Grand Chelem champion three times Murray retired last year after the Paris Olympic Games and surprised the tennis world when he announced that he would train Djokovic in Australia.
Speaking in Qatar last month, Djokovic said: “It is indefinite in terms of time that we are going to work together, but we have agreed that we will most likely work in the United States, then some tournaments on clay terrains and see how it goes.”
Indian Wells starts this week with Miami on March 19.
