Murder investigation launched after two children die in Nottingham fire | UK News

A murder investigation has been opened after two children died and a woman was seriously injured in a flat fire in Nottingham, police said.

The fire started in the first floor apartment of a two-storey residential property in Clifton at around 3.17am on Sunday. Firefighters tackled the blaze and it was extinguished around 4 a.m.

A woman and two children, aged three and one, were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and taken to Queen’s Medical Center in Nottingham. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, both children were pronounced dead at the hospital.

Nottinghamshire Police said the woman, believed to be in her 30s, remains in critical condition.

DCI Greg McGill said a joint police and fire investigation concluded the fire was started deliberately.

“These are tragic and very sad circumstances and my heart goes out to the families of those involved,” he said.

“We are appealing to witnesses who were in the area at the time and saw something suspicious to come forward and help us with the investigation.

“We have a team of detectives working hard to establish the circumstances and our investigations are just beginning.”

Anyone with information has been urged to contact Nottinghamshire Police online or by calling 101 and quoting incident 0110-20112022. You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
