Multiple sideshows reported in Oakland

Several sightings were reported in Oakland early Sunday morning in different parts of the city.

According to a news release from the Oakland Police Department, the shows took place around 2 a.m. near Claremont and College avenues, Alcatraz and Telegraph avenues, the 1200 block of Derby Avenue and the 700 from Mandela Parkway. Another show took place on High Street, according to KRON.

Some cars were reportedly set on fire.

“Shooting has been reported at numerous illegal performance venues,” OPD said in a statement. “As additional police arrived on scene, vehicles and onlookers dispersed the area. »

This news organization asked OPD how many people were in the crowd, if anyone was injured and if any arrests were made, but has not yet received a response.

The Oakland City Council passed an ordinance last year making it illegal to “arrange, facilitate, or promote” live entertainment.

Those found guilty of violating the order could face misdemeanor charges and civil penalties, including up to six months in prison or fines ranging from $1,000 to $5,000, with heavier penalties for repeat offenders.

Those who participate in illegal shows could also have their vehicle towed and held for a period of 30 days.

OPD encourages those who find themselves in the middle of a show to seek a safe alternative route that would allow them to escape show activities.

“If you are involved in a vehicle collision with a show attendee, do not confront the individual; instead, call 911 to report the incident,” OPD said in a post on X Sunday afternoon.

Anyone with more information about the shows is asked to contact the OPD traffic section at 510-777-8570.
