Multiple crossings blocked in downtown Wheaton after train breakdown – NBC Chicago

A freight train broke down in west suburban Wheaton on Sunday, blocking several streets and crossings.

In a Facebook post at 5:55 p.m., the city of Wheaton said police were notified by Union Pacific that a disabled freight train was blocking all crossings between Hale and President Street.

Drivers were advised to use the West Street crossing, which remained open. Manchester Street Bridge was also an alternative route.

Although it was unclear how long the closure would last, it was expected to continue until the evening.

City officials reminded drivers to use caution and not drive around closed doors.
