All lanes of Interstate 70 in southern Illinois were closed after a multi-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon, Illinois State Police said.
According to Illinois State Police, the multi-unit crash closed all lanes of the eastbound highway near Greenup.
All traffic was diverted from U.S. Route 40, ISP officials said in a social media post around 3:03 p.m. There were no immediate reports of injuries in the crash.
Greenup is located in Cumberland County in southeastern Illinois, with Interstate 70 crossing the state heading northeast toward Indianapolis. Elsewhere in central Illinois, part of I-55 was closed due to a collision.
Northbound I-55 was closed at mile marker 124 near Lincoln, state police said around 5:15 p.m.
The region is expected to be hit hard by heavy snowfall and gusty winds, with significant snow accumulations expected in the region.
Road conditions are deteriorating in central and southern Illinois, particularly south of the I-72 corridor, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.
