If you want your MTV, it’s gotten a lot harder to find.
The MTV News archive was deleted Monday, removing decades of music journalism from the Internet.
Links to mtvnews.com and mtv.com/news began redirecting to MTV’s homepage, Variety reported. The links continued to redirect to the homepage Wednesday evening.
The archive contained work dating back to the news site’s inception in 1996, which documented the rise of several stars and genres.
The music channel’s news operations were shut down in 2023 as part of a series of layoffs led by parent company Paramount. The layoffs eliminated 25% of jobs at Paramount-owned companies.
CMT (formerly Country Music Television), also owned by Paramount, removed its news archive from its site last week, according to Variety.
USA TODAY has reached out to Paramount Global.
Former employees mourn MTV News
Several former MTV news staffers took to social media to mourn the loss of their former workplaces, while others criticized the removal of collected works.
Brian Hiatt, a writer for Rolling Stone, noted that some earlier articles did not appear with the use of the Wayback Machine.
