Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said Friday’s earthquake in New York was a sign that the nation must “repent.”
An earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 4.8 shook the northeastern region Friday morning. If it is correct, the earthquake – which had an epicenter about 30 miles west of Newark – would being the third largest earthquake in New Jersey history.
Greene, a self-described Christian nationalist, said the earthquake was a message from God to Americans.

Parts of the country will experience a total solar eclipse on April 8. (And no, the eclipse has nothing to do with the earthquake).
The House is expected to return the next day after a weeklong recess, during which House Speaker Mike Johnson could advance long-awaited legislation for aid to Ukraine.
Greene filed a “motion to quash” against Johnson in March, warning that she could take steps to remove him from leadership if he financed Ukraine’s war against Russia. His Republican colleagues do not seem particularly supportive of his efforts, especially after the difficulty of deciding on Johnson at the end of 2023.
After spending much of 2023 making efforts to become more of a mainstream Republican, it appears Greene has returned to her old ways.
