A lawmaker has been convicted of harassment and is expected to face demands to step down from her seat.
Claudia Webbe, the independent MP for Leicester East, has been accused of leading a campaign of harassment through spam phone calls against Michelle Merritt, a friend of her partner. She reportedly called Merritt a milkman, threatened with an acid attack and said she would distribute nude photos of Merritt to her family.
Webbe, a close ally of Jeremy Corbyn, was elected Labor MP for Leicester East, but the whip was removed after being indicted. She was first elected in 2019 with a majority of 6,019. She denied being harassed between September 1, 2018 and April 26, 2020.
