Lanes were closed for hours and a motorcyclist was killed following a multi-vehicle crash overnight in the suburb.
According to Illinois State Police, the three-unit crash occurred around 12:44 a.m. on northbound I-55 in Woodward, DuPage County.
At that time, a motorcycle was traveling on the southbound I-355 ramp to northbound I-55 when the driver crashed, the ISP said. The motorcycle landed in the northbound lanes of I-55 and the driver was ejected in the southbound lanes, police added.
Another vehicle traveling in the northbound I-55 lanes struck the motorcycle, the ISP said, resulting in a rollover.
A third vehicle traveling on I-55 southbound failed to stop and struck the driver of the motorcycle, police said.
The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene, police added.
No other injuries were reported.
The southbound and northbound lanes of I-55 near the crash remained closed for hours as police worked to investigate and clear the scene. The roads were opened at 5:46 a.m., the ISP said.
