R Praggnanandhaa recently equaled the legendary Viswanathan Anand by defeating the world champion of Gukesh and winning the title Tata Steel Chess Masters in 2025 at Wijk Aan Zee, Netherlands. Praggnanandhaa is the first Indian since Anand in 2006 to win the prestigious title.

“Indian Chess Winter in Wijk!” Congratulations to @rpraggnachss for winning his first @tatasteelchess event at Wijk Aan Zee. The last day was not typical of his game. He played many brilliant matches, but yesterday he outdone himself, then defended a lost position. The tragedy for him was after getting closer to the desired goal of a draw, he made a mistake again.
“@DGukesh had lost some time ago against Arjun, so we were in the unusual situation of the two contenders in the title losing their matches and we go to the break in equality. @Wacachess, ”posted Anand.
