Mother of Emily Damari: My daughter was owned in UNRWA facilities, denied medical treatments

Freed’s mother Emily Damari revealed on Friday that her daughter was owned by Hamas in UNRWA facilities in the Gaza Strip and that her kidnappers refused to give her access to medical treatment.

Emily lost two fingers in her left hand after being killed by Hamas terrorists during her kidnapping on October 7, 2023. Her mother Mandy said that it was “a miracle that she survived”, in an article on X thanking British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for calling the earliest day.

“Hamas held Emily in UNRWA installations and denied its access to medical treatment after having drawn it twice,” wrote Mandy, who, like his daughter, has British citizenship. “It is a miracle that she has survived, and we need to obtain aid for the remaining hostages now.”

There was no statement from the Starmer office on the phone call.

UNRWA, the United Nations Rescue Association and Works for Palestine refugees, said Damari later that the “very serious complaint” was to be the subject of an investigation.

“The vast majority of our buildings were transformed into a shelter at the start of the war. There was also very few supplies and help that the agency could give them, “said UNRWA spokesperson Juliet Touma, in an interview with the BBC, according to The Guardian.

“We have been calling for the release of hostages for months … These statements that hostages have taken place in UNRWA premises, even if they have been released, are absolutely serious.”

“We have repeatedly called on independent surveys on these assertions, including the abusive use and contempt for the premises of UNRWA by Palestinian armed groups. It also includes Hamas. »»

A member of the United Nations Rescue and Work Agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA) checks the school courtyard after an Israeli air strike hit the site where Hamas had created a command center, in Nuseirat in the Gaza central band on September 11, 2024.

The revelation occurred one day after a new Israeli law has taken effect which prohibits UNRWA operations on Israeli land – including East Jerusalem – and contacts with the Israeli authorities.

Israel has long criticized UNRWA, claiming that it perpetuates the Israeli -Palestinian conflict by granting refugee status to the descendants of refugees – a designation that has not been allowed to any other refugee in the world.

He also accused the agency of promoting hatred in its schools, promoting Palestinian dependence on aid for decades through its system and allowing terrorists to infiltrate its ranks, some participating in the atrocities of 7 October and hundreds of others with links with terrorist groups.

Despite the ban, Touma told a press briefing in Geneva on Friday that UNRWA “continued to provide services” in the West Bank and Gaza, adding any disturbance to its work in the strip would “in danger” the D version D ‘Hosting in progress and breaking the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
