After five consecutive weeks of increase, mortgage rates have now decreased for the second consecutive week. The decreases are however quite minimal this week. According to Freddie Mac, the fixed rate of 30 years is down from a basic point to 6.95%and the fixed rate of 15 years has dropped by four base points to 6.12%.
The Federal Reserve announced that it did not reduce the rate of federal funds at yesterday’s meeting and said it intended to be conservative concerning the tariffs of federal funds in 2025 – that mortgage rates will probably not fall any time. The now could be the right time to lock a price with a lender and start buying houses before the busy spring purchasing season gets.
