Morning Report: Nate Diaz supports Conor McGregor’s withdrawal from UFC 303: ‘Inexperienced people talking shit’
Nate Diaz sides with Conor McGregor regarding the UFC 303 debacle.
Two of the UFC’s greatest superstars of all time have put their differences aside since their last fight at UFC 202 in August 2016. There were minor verbal exchanges between the two over the next eight years, but Diaz doesn’t find McGregor’s first career fight. removal like time for one.
UFC 303 was supposed to feature the long-awaited return of “The Notorious” against Michael Chandler inside T-Mobile Arena this Saturday night. That was until McGregor suffered a broken little finger, saying he didn’t want to fight less than 100 percent. Diaz, 39, believes the community’s critical reaction to the decision has been overblown.
“I think it was just a minor thing,” Diaz told MMA Junkie. “I think they made a big deal out of it. Good idea. If I get screwed, I’d like to put off the fight too, but people are freaking out. I think I wouldn’t want to fight until I’m 100% ready to rock, because in the past I’ve done all kinds of shit that I shouldn’t have done.
“So I think he learned from experience and all these inexperienced people talking bullshit, just speaking out of their inexperience. They’re going to have to deal with the criticism until the fight is over, but I think it will happen and everything will be fine.
Before McGregor returns to the octagon, Diaz continues his boxing career by facing Jorge Masvidal in a boxing rematch next weekend. Diaz lost his first MMA encounter at UFC 244 in November 2019 when Masvidal scored a third-round medical stoppage TKO. He made his professional debut losing by unanimous decision to Jake Paul last August.
Although he is no longer on the UFC roster, Diaz finished his career with the promotion on a high note and expressed interest in fighting there again. Ultimately, a McGregor trilogy to settle their score 1-1 is something he doesn’t rule out of the question.
“Yeah, we’ll see what happens with time, you know?” Diaz said. “It depends on what happens with my fight, his fight, the UFC. I’m not a fortune teller, you know what I’m saying? We’ll see what happens.”
