More than 24 years after the release of Marvel vs. Capcom 2, a new unlockable configuration for Cable has been discovered

In mid-June, it was announced that Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics would be coming in 2024. This was quite a surprise to the community, considering how things ended with Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. Needless to say, this announcement has major implications for the future of the series.

It turns out that the older Marvel vs. Capcom games still have a lot of potential, even though it’s been over 24 years since Marvel vs. Capcom 2 came out. SuperUnk3800 has discovered a new, deadly and unblockable setup featuring Cable, a character already recognized as a top tier in MvC2.

Even Justin Wong, one of the best Marvel vs. Capcom 2 players of all time, couldn’t believe this tech had been hidden for so long. If this tech proves viable for high-level play, Cable could end up in a tier all by himself.

From what we see in the clip, the unblockable setup is initiated with Cable’s Hyper Viper Beam, which is already considered one of the best Hypers in the game. It seems that the opponent must be in the air for this sequence to work.

Using the Hyper Viper Beam, the user only needs to perform another quick Hyper Combo. Oddly enough, this makes the Hyper Combo unblockable if it is fast enough.

Of course, it’s been shown that there’s nothing wrong with sending a DHC to another character in the middle of Cable’s Hyper Viper Beam to deal extra damage. Plus, the damage against a poorly timed assist can be quite painful.

It turns out that Cable has a few ways to create the conditions for this situation to happen. Check it all out below, and prepare to see this happen a lot once Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is released:
