Flagstaff, AZ – A Navajo family said hundreds of thousands of dollars in Amerindian jewelry had been stolen in their trailer locked during the participation in the Stanford Powwow.
Maryetta and Henry Jackson have been creating handmade jewelry for over 50 years.
“That’s part of us for all these years,” said Maryetta Jackson.
They decided to attend the Stanford Powwow for the first time during the Mother’s Day weekend, driving from Flagstaff to San Jose.

“They created them by themselves, they found their own style,” said granddaughter Tracie Jackson. “We use this work to help educate our community, to help educate non-greed.”
But even before the event begins, Maryetta Jackson said they woke up on Friday morning a nightmare.
“They apparently pierced the lock,” she said. “We don’t have a single element, not a ring, nothing. So we’re going to start again.”
San Jose police confirmed that she was investigating the flight after someone entered a trailer between Thursday and Friday. The police did not share more information on their investigation.
The family has a unique combined HJ symbol and a dinner stamp on each room.
Maryetta Jackson said that although she is restarting after 50 years, she does not give up her passion.
“You put so many of you in the jewelry that you are that it is part of you,” said Jackson.
Their grandchildren have accessed the action, sharing information with the police, publishing their online history and creating a fundraising online to help rebuild the family business.
“I am so grateful to be part of the indigenous community because of this, we expected each other and we have the back of the other during these times,” said Tracie Jackson.
The Jackson family requests public help to identify one of their jewelry that could have been stolen.
