More showers and thunderstorms on the way – NBC Chicago

After a Memorial Day weekend marked by intermittent rainy weather in the Chicago area, more rain and storms were ahead Tuesday, the NBC 5 Storm team said.

“It’s been a soggy time the last few days,” said NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Pete Sack. “Today is no exception.”

Tuesday morning and early afternoon will be clear and dry, Sack said, with blue skies and thinning clouds. Around noon, more cloud cover was expected, followed by showers and thunderstorms between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., Sack said.

“Rumbles of thunder” were also possible, Sack added.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected to last through Tuesday evening, Sack said, and rain is expected to leave the area by midnight, although a few showers could linger overnight.

According to a tweet posted on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, storm risks were highest between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.

“Scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon,” the tweet said. “Stronger storms, accompanied by gusty winds and small hail, will be possible.”

Temperatures Tuesday are expected to be below average, with a high expected around 70 degrees, Sack said. Wednesday is expected to be dry, although temperatures will likely remain cooler, particularly at the lake.

Forecasters also noted that Wednesday’s breezes could create high-risk conditions for swimming in Lake Michigan.

Cooler temperatures in the 60s and low 70s were expected through Thursday, according to Sack. Friday and Saturday, temperatures are expected to climb back into the mid to upper 70s, Sack added.

After Tuesday’s showers and thunderstorms, the next chance for rain comes Saturday, Sack said.
