Guide to the Secretary of Defense: “Monday of identity died in DOD”
Our unity and objective contribute to respecting the mission to combat the department. The efforts to divide the force – put a group in front of another – eroding camaraderie and threatening the execution of the mission.
In the future, the components of the DOD and the military departments will not use official resources, to include reception hours, to organize celebrations or events related to the months of cultural awareness, in particular the national month of the History of African-Americans / Blacks, of the month of the history of women, the American Asian heritage and the Pacific Islands months, months of pride, national month of Hispanic heritage, national month of awareness of the employment of people Disabled and national month of American Indian heritage. The military and civilians remain authorized to attend these unofficial events outside of service hours.
The installations, units and offices are encouraged to celebrate the value and success of military heroes of all races, sexes and history while we remain our culture of warriors and our ethics. We are proud of our warriors and their history, but we will focus on the character of their service instead of their immutable characteristics.
