Moment So You Think You Can Dance star fears she suffered an ‘acid attack’

A dancer who appeared on hit US series So You Think You Can Dance has claimed she suffered an “acid attack” while in London.

Korra Obidi, a Nigerian dancer and singer, was admitted to hospital after a substance was allegedly thrown in her face.

The 32-year-old, who appeared in the 2019 series, also said the attacker brandished a knife and cut her hand.

The incident happened while she was in the middle of a live stream for fans, and she could be seen washing her face with Coca Cola.

Obidi could be heard saying to someone nearby: “My face is burning, can I have some Coke to wash it off please?”

The Nigerian dancer and singer was seen happily talking to her followers on Instagram live before the incident.

In a post on Instagram, she also wrote: “Currently, in an ambulance at the hospital, I was attacked with a knife and acid in the UK in the middle of a live broadcast.

“There has been a lot of hatred in the past, but this physical attack is a wake-up call.

“If you have any information on the attacker, a black woman. 5 feet. please forward to Korramanagement@gmail.com.’

Later in the video, a yellow kitchen knife can be seen with what appears to be blood and a first aider tends to Obidi by dousing him with solution.

Many people flooded the replies section, with one person writing: “Bless you dear,” while another said: “I’m so sorry this happened to you.”

Obidi then gave an update in the comments section, writing: “Guys, I’m in the hospital. Travel security is no longer a luxury but (a) necessity. The acid was salicylic and I was lucky. I love you guys.’

A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police were called shortly after 1.40pm on Thursday April 11 to reports of an assault on Maiden Lane, WC2.

“Officers attended and found a woman in her 30s with a cut on her hand and reporting liquid had been thrown in her face. She was taken to hospital for treatment.

“The liquid was later confirmed to be a non-harmful cosmetic product.” Another woman left the scene before police arrived.

“An investigation is underway and anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 and give reference 3721/11APR.”
