“In terms of arbitration, Barratt is in a brilliant position, he must see this,” he smoked. “It’s a shocking tackle, we know it should be a red card. For Tierney, not to give it on Var is shocking.
Former Everton Duncan Ferguson striker agreed with Carragher that Tarkowski should have been sent.
Ferguson said: “There is no argument, straight red. He knows what he is doing. He came through him, it could have been a leg breaker. Perhaps the referee … he is his first derby, he should have brought him back to the instructor.
Gary Neville expressed a similar belief on Tarkowski’s challenge on comments.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Dean said: “(Barrott) should have gone to the screen and (Tarkowski) should be extinguished. It is a horrible challenge. It’s a red card all day.
The Premier League explained the decision on X, with a statement indicating: “ the call of the yellow card referee for a reckless fault of Tarkowski was verified by the Var, with contact on the follow -up after Tarkowski played the ball deemed imprudent. ”
Tarkowski had marked a late dramatic equalizer at the previous meeting between the two teams during the last Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.
However, Mac Allister had the last laugh this time while a second half’s strike from Diogo Jota gave Liverpool the victory while Arne Slot’s team clearly made 12 points at the top of the Premier League.
