Jurgen Klopp’s decision to drop Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez for Liverpool’s trip to West Ham failed to pay off as the Reds stuttered to a 2-2 draw.

The Liverpool manager started them on the bench after scoring three goals in Liverpool’s last seven games before the match.

But the front three of Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz and Harvey Elliott remained profligate as Liverpool took 28 shots but scored just twice.

Andy Robertson got on the scoresheet and Alphonse Areola scored an own goal after a pinball in the box, but it was not enough against efforts from Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio.

Salah looked bored during pre-match warm-ups, but he, like Nunez, came on in the 79th minute.

He and Klopp had a heated argument as Liverpool made a triple substitution with the game at 2-2, leaving Reds fans worried about relationship strain.

Mohamed Salah and Jurgen Klopp found themselves engaged in a heated argument as the Liverpool star prepared to face West Ham.

Klopp first approached his player and said something to Salah which quickly provoked a bizarre reaction from the prolific goalscorer who leads Liverpool’s goalscoring charts with 24 goals in all competitions this season.

Salah responded to his manager by continually waving his arms, pointing to the pitch, then pointing to the retreating Klopp who had returned to monitoring the action on the pitch.

However, Salah continued to berate the outgoing Liverpool manager and only stopped his show of displeasure when striker Darwin Nunez intervened.

“That’s not a good look.” This kind of thing should happen behind closed doors,” Ally McCoist told TNT Sports.

The Reds could level on points with league leaders Arsenal with victory over West Ham, but their title race is now effectively over, if it wasn’t already.

They are two points behind Arsenal after playing a game more, and one point behind Manchester City after playing two games less.

There are just three games left of the Jurgen Klopp era before Feyenoord’s Arne Slot replaces him.
