Mississippi State football coach Mike Leach remains hospitalized and in critical condition, the university said in a statement Monday morning. Leach suffered from what was called on Sunday a “personal health issue” that arose at home.
According to a report from the Clarion Ledger, Leach suffered a massive heart attack.
Leach, in his third season as Bulldogs head coach, was in practice with the team on Saturday as Mississippi State prepared to face Illinois on Jan. 2 at the ReliaQuest Bowl.
With Leach hospitalized, defensive coordinator Zach Arnett was put in charge of the football program.
Leach, 61, is in his third stint as head coach. He was at Texas Tech from 2000 to 2009 and Washington State from 2012 to 2019. He was the AFCA National Coach of the Year in 2018.
Information from ESPN’s Chris Low was used in this report.
