Missing zebra captured after 6 days on the run in Washington state

A missing zebra that was on the run for nearly a week after escaping from a trailer in Washington state was found over the weekend, authorities said Saturday.

The female mare, named Shug, was one of four zebras that escaped from a trailer near North Bend, Washington, about 30 miles east of Seattle, on April 28, according to a press release from King County Regional Animal Services.

The group of zebras was being transported from Winlock, Washington, to Anaconda, Montana, when the animals got loose while the owner reportedly stopped to fix a problem with the trailer, the organization said. noting that the other three zebras had been recaptured a few hours later. escape.

Shug, however, left the caravan location off Interstate 90 and drove through the foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range for six days, “sometimes being spotted by residents and causing an international sensation,” according to the ‘organization.

On Friday, the viral search for Shug ended when the animal was captured by a group of private citizens and animal control officers from King County Regional Animal Services.

Shug was located in the woods of the Riverbend neighborhood, according to the organization.

“The zebra appeared to be in good condition despite its nearly week-long adventure in the woods,” King County Regional Animal Services said.

The organization said it would announce additional details about Shug’s recapture soon, but noted that the zebra would continue its original journey to Montana.
