Authorities in Texas are searching for a pregnant teenager who is past her due date and may be in danger.
Savanah Soto, 18, was last seen in a Kia Optima around 2 p.m. Friday in the 6000 block of Grissom Road in Leon Valley, city police said in a news release Tuesday.
“Law enforcement officials believe this person’s disappearance poses a credible threat to their own health and safety,” police said, noting that a CLEAR alert had been issued for the missing teen.
The CLEAR Alert was created by the Texas Legislature in 2019, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. It aims to help law enforcement find and rescue missing, kidnapped, or abducted adults who are in immediate danger of being injured or killed. CLEAR stands for Coordinated Rescue of Adults by Law Enforcement.
The town of Leon Valley, located about 12 miles northwest of San Antonio, posted on its Facebook page: “Ms. Soto, who is pregnant and past her due date, has sparked serious concern among her family members after missing an essential medical appointment. The family first contacted the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) and a CLEAR alert was issued.
The city added: “The Leon Valley Police Department has opened an investigation into her disappearance. Detectives and officers are actively investigating and seeking witnesses and additional information.”
NBC affiliate WOAI in San Antonio spoke with Soto’s family, who said the teen had not been seen since the day before she was due to be induced.
“I just need to know she’s OK,” said Soto’s mother, Gloria Cordova.
Cordova pleaded with the public for information on her daughter’s whereabouts. She also filed a police report with Leon Valley over the weekend, WOAI reported.
Since his last conversation with his daughter, Cordova said there has been no contact with her.
“I just want her to come home. I’m worried about the baby, even though she had the baby,” she told the news channel.
Cordova said she thought her daughter was in trouble.
“There’s no reason for her to get up and go and do that,” she said.
Cordova said Soto would not disappear on his own in light of the death of his brother, Ethan Soto, 15, in 2022.
“She knows what I went through with Ethan and I know she doesn’t want me to relive that. Come home, I just want her to come home, I just want her to call me and tell me she’s okay,” Cordova told WOAI. .
Soto is 5 feet 1 inch tall, weighs 115 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes, police said. If anyone has information on Soto’s whereabouts, they are asked to contact Leon Valley Police at 210-812-3259.
“God, listen to my prayers and bring my granddaughter and great-grandson home,” the teen’s grandmother, Rachel Soto, told the news station. “That’s all we want.”
