A missing Carnival Cruise passenger has been found alive after falling overboard after a night of drinking.

The male passenger, who has not been identified, was found in the ocean by the US Coast Guard on Thanksgiving Day after being missing for more than 12 hours.

He was last seen at the bar with his sister before leaving for the bathroom at around 11pm on Wednesday and did not return. Her sister waited until noon the next day to report her missing, according to KPLC 7.

The ship was carefully searched for him, but he was nowhere to be found. The crews called the coast guard around 2:30 p.m.

He then began to turn back to New Orleans to support the US Coast Guard, before being released en route to Cozumel, Mexico.

The man was spotted by another vessel and picked up by helicopter.

He was found in reactive condition and was flown back to New Orleans for treatment, USCG Petty Officer Ryan Graves told CNN.

It’s unclear how long he spent in the ocean, which maintains a temperature of around 62 degrees near New Orleans.

Carnival provided support to his family during his disappearance.

Mike Anderson, who was a passenger on the ship, said he saw cruise staff searching for the man and heard missing person announcements.

‘[I] noticed security starting to search the boat with a picture of the missing [passenger] in their phones,” he told CNN.

Carnival told DailyMail.com in a statement on Friday, “We greatly appreciate the efforts of everyone, especially the US Coast Guard and the sailor who spotted the guest in the water.”

The ship will continue to sail to Yucatán, Mexico, before returning to the United States on Monday.

The five-day cruise started in New Orleans before arriving in Cozumel on day three. The next day, passengers visit another port before returning to Louisiana.

Earlier this year, a 32-year-old woman jumped overboard after escaping from safety.

Footage shows three security guards on the Carnival Valor holding the frantic woman’s arms behind her back. She was not handcuffed, despite previous complaints from passengers.

She was heard screaming the name “Alicia” as guards helped her up a flight of stairs and out of the pool after an alleged incident in the hot tub.

Shortly after being escorted off the deck, the 32-year-old reportedly broke free from the guards and jumped from the tenth floor of the ship and into the ocean.

Her jump was not shown in the video, but passengers told Fox 8 that she hit the side of the boat before hitting the water first.

Shocked passengers are seen rushing to the edge of the ship as the crew threw life jackets and flares to mark their position in the water. Passengers claim the woman disappeared shortly thereafter.
